Wednesday 8 May 2019 at 7 pm at the MAON, Museum of 19th and 20th Century Art, in Rende (CS) the exhibition “THE BEST. From Picasso, Braque, Duchamp to Burri, Warhol and contemporaries”, curated by Tonino Sicoli, with sixty works from the collections acquired over the course of twenty-two years.
Speakers: Antonio Coscarella, president of the A. Capizzano Center / MAON, Romeo Bufalo, professor of Aesthetics at the University of Calabria, Tonino Sicoli, artistic director of the MAON.
The exhibition presents the major artists of international art of the twentieth century, from the historical avant-gardes to the contemporary ones.
Paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, graphic works by the great masters who have marked the history of the twentieth century will be exhibited.
Together with the works already acquired during its intense activities, the MAON exhibits in this review some new acquisitions by artists representing various movements, such as Pablo Picasso, Nicolay Diulgheroff, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, George Grosz, Otto Dix, Jean Tinguely, Daniel Spoerri, César, Christo, Andy Warhol, Rafael Alberti, Primo Conti, Renato Guttuso, Carlo Levi, Luigi Montanarini, Bruno Munari, Giulio Turcato, Roberto Crippa, Emilio Isgrò, Nam June Paik, Joseph Kossuth, Gastone Novelli, Jan Fabre, Hermann Nitsch.
The collection takes a look at the twentieth century with the most significant names of a season of artistic renewal, through the most significant movements and personalities. Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism, Abstractionism, Informalism, Spatialism, Realism, Pop Art, Nouveau Realisme, Arte Povera, Minimalism, Transavanguardia are represented.
The proposal has undoubted educational values and is intended as a moment of dissemination of the history of recent art, addressing a vast public, with an educational path of great interest. With this initiative, the MAON, in addition to being the only museum with stable collections of artists of Calabrian origin of the 19th and 20th centuries, also documents the history of international art with a cultural and critical slant, which reconstructs the intellectual context especially of the past century.
The event is organized by the Center "A. Capizzano” of Rende, with the patronage of the Municipality of Rende, and with the partnership of Aleph Arte, the Carmine D. Rizzo Foundation and Strategie Culturali.
