The video section was born from the need to have a Documentation Center on Contemporary Art in the area, which can offer an overview of the current production of national and international video art.
The primary objective is to start a representative mapping of artists who work on video experimentation, in relation to the latest generation technical tools.
At the same time, Archivideo aims to trace a chronological historical path, starting from the present day, going back to the 60s.
Audiovisual documents of particular relevance, on the artistic movements that have marked the history of art in the last fifty years, (auteur videos, performance events and art exhibitions), will allow us to deepen our knowledge on the use of video in art and the related technological changes.
In addition to pursuing the important task of preserving the video heritage, the Archive will allow the public to study and learn about unpublished material.
There are over 300 titles that make up the initial core, which will be subsequently enriched thanks to the collaboration with Cultural Foundations and Museum Institutes.
In addition to the section dedicated to Videoart, the Archivideo includes a video library of Historical Documentation, with a specific collection of cultural activities, exhibitions and events organized in recent years by the MAON and the Polo Museale di Rende, with a careful look at national artistic events, connected to the local territory.
Among the various author videos present, in the Historical Documentation Section, we include:
- "Umberto Boccioni. Drawings and engravings" edited by Tonino Sicoli;
- "Jannis Kounellis. History and the present. Work in Progress”, edited by Ivana Russo, interview by Tonino Sicoli (2007);
- Rotella VS DADA by Carmen Cosenza (Strategie Culturali) (2018);
- The Last Century, Art in Calabria edited by Carmen Cosenza (Strategie Culturali) (2018).
